Thiess JV in $260m Wheatstone deal

A joint venture between Thiess and Belgium’s Besix SA has won a $260 million contract at Chevron’s Wheatstone liquefied natural gas project.

The joint venture will construct the breakwater and materials offloading facility for Wheatstone under the deal, which was announced by Thiess today.

The project will create more than 300 jobs, with the majority of the new work based in Onslow.

Thiess managing director Bruce Munro said 80 per cent of the work under the contract would take place in Australia.

The contract is Thiess’ second win at Wheatstone, having previously secured a micro-tunnelling deal from Chevron.

Thiess is also currently completing the accommodation village for Chevron, for its Gorgon project at Barrow Island.

Work on the Wheatstone breakwater facility is due to start later this year.
