THE State Government has renewed Alcoa’s operating licence
at its Kwinana alumina refinery after the company spent $95 million on
maintenance and improvements last year.
The Government’s new licence conditions include further
monitoring of dust emissions and measures to minimise the risk of chemical
spills.
Last year Alcoa completely replaced two 7.5-kilometre
residue pipelines and spent $30 million installing process control technology
to help safeguard against overflows.
It plans to spend $38 million on a new water storage area
this year.
