AS the decorations start to go up around the shopping malls, the Western Australian Government has released this year’s extended trading hours for the 2003-04 Christmas and New Year period.
Consumer and Employment Protection Minister John Kobelke said he had approved the hours recommended by the Retail Shops Advisory Committee, including the customary two additional days of Sunday trading over the Christmas period.
The variations will apply to general retail shops in the Perth metropolitan area.
The package will also be available to all non-metropolitan local government municipalities in circumstances other than where the relevant council seeks to vary these arrangements.
The extensions will not include motor vehicle dealers or general shops in the City of Rockingham or the localities of Two Rocks and Yanchep where specific extended trading orders will continue to apply.
Exempted General Retail Shops (Small Shops) and Special Shops may trade each day of the year.
