WA meat processor EG Green and Sons last week announced the appointment of four new members to the non-executive board.
Mark Hughes takes up the position of chairman, while Dr William Ryan, Deborah Pitter and Chris Wiener have accepted positions as board members.
The appointments, which follow the handing over of the chairmanship by Peter Green and the resignation of board member Peter McGrath, mark the final stage of a strategic review that has aimed at modernising the company behind Harvey Beef.
Chief excutive officer Garry Minton said the company’s position in the meat industry, and the environment in which the company was working, had led to the strategy review.
“We are in the process of implementing strategies at the moment across the whole area of the business,” he said.
The strategies had been adopted to change the business culture of the company and help it remain competitive in all aspects of the business, the live cattle trade included.
Mr Minton said the board had essentially been divided, with one half to work on the day-to-day management of the company, and the other to oversee strategic direction.
He said the appointment of the two additional board members would bring fresh ideas to the company.
Mr Minton said eastern States export markets had fallen away this year, resulting in products being dumped in WA.
The recommendations of the review led to the stepping down of Alan, Graeme and Peter Green from their management positions earlier this year.
This left the company without a Green family member in management for the first time since it was founded in 1919, although Alan and Peter Green remain members of the non-executive board.
