The Australian Information Industry Association's 2006 iAwards are set to recongnise ICT innovation across a total of 19 key industry categories with nominations closing on February 23rd, 2006.
Below is the full announcement:
In today's world, the influence and reach of computers and technology is all pervasive and the push for innovation and development is felt across the majority of industries.
Established in 1994 by Australia's peak Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry body - the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) - the prestigious iAwards program offers a platform on which to showcase, and in some cases launch, many of Australia's ICT success stories.
In essence, the iAwards recognise the entrepreneurial spirit of the Australian ICT industry and its influence across countless industries and markets and in doing so provide international recognition for Australia's world class ICT innovations.
iAwards will be presented for ICT solutions across a total of 19 key industry categories - agriculture and primary industry; applications and infrastructure tools; communications applications; community education and training; e-government and services; financial applications; general applications; healthcare; industrial applications; media and entertainment; research and development.
Other categories recognised include secondary student project; security; tertiary student project; and tourism & hospitality. Overall winners for the community, local industry and the iNspiration categories will also be announced.
Who would have thought that an innovative ICT solution could make such a difference in the world of tyres, trucks and fleet management?
Had they not won the 2005 iAward for Industrial Applications, The Vehicle Management Corporation (VMC), recognise that they wouldn't have gained the traction they have today as a leader in industrial ICT innovation, not only in their local Western Australia market, but across the region.
In fact, managing director and co-founder of VMC Mark Fernie is adamant that receiving the iAward has elevated the company to the next level. "The new business that has come our way is phenomenal," he commented. "Not only have we gained recognition from our peers, but all our staff are now more motivated than ever."
The company's enTIRE Wheels systems is a tyre management software program designed to track large volumes of vehicles and tyres in large transport fleets, helping to significantly reduce the cost of tyre replacement and improving safety.
Being nominated for an iAward enables Australian companies to benchmark their ICT solutions and partnerships against the best Australia has to offer...before embarking, in many instances, to compete on the world stage.
Winners in each category will be invited to represent Australia at the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) in Macau in October 2006 where they will compete against entrants from other APICTA member economies, including Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
iAwards supporters include Category Partners, National ICT Australia, the Australian Computer Society, Cliftons, IBM and the Welsh Development Agency; online media partner, ZDnet and partners Accenture and I-Nex Corporation and Mr Alan Baxter, Chairman of Fujitsu Limited, who will head the judging panel featuring prominent judges from Australia's ICT industry, government, academia and aligned industries
Electronic nomination facilities are available for the first time this year. Nominations can be lodged by visiting www.iawards.com.au. Nominations close on February 23, 2006.
