Kwinana Industries Education Partnership (KIEP) is an award winning industry/education partnership formalised in 1995 to break down barriers between education and industry, strongly supported by 34 Kwinana industries, 12 high schools, tertiary institutions and training providers.
Participation in the arts by school students was very low in Rockingham and Kwinana, so Nufarm moved quickly to direct the Rockingham Council for the Arts to introduce the Nufarm ‘youth encouragement award’ as an incentive to KIEP students to participate in the arts.
Participation in the award increased rapidly necessitating a separate youth award to accommodate the entries.
From eight entries in its inception, the Nufarm award now attracts 1,000 entries.
Hence there are now the annual Kwinana ‘industries design for industry award’ and the Nufarm ‘youth encouragement awards’.
The project is activity-based over the school year, and involves teachers, students, industry, arts facilities, local government and the community.
