Australian Young Labor national president Matt Dixon has called for a change at the top to revitalise the party, but has labelled Labor MPs "spoilt children" for publicly bickering about a potential spill.
"I was disappointed as a member of the Labor party when I opened this morning's paper and see not only Labor MPs trading verbal blows over the leadership of the party, but for the leader to join in and launch a personal attack on MPs within his own party," Mr Dixon said.
Mr Dixon said a new leader was needed to attract young voters back to the party.
"The longer we wait, the harder it will be to improve our standing with West Australians," he said.
According to the WA electoral commission, Labor's two party preferred vote has slipped another six points to 42 to the Liberal's 58. Donations to Labor fell by 75 per cent in the past year.
"It is quite clear to the people of Western Australia that the Labor Party is not providing a strong alternate to govern in 2013," Mr Dixon said.
"Our supporter base has been decreasing by the day since our 2008 election loss.
"We need a new direction, we need new leadership.
"We need a strong contender to step forward and declare their candidacy, we need someone to end this bickering and take WA Labor to new heights.
Mr Dixon also conceded that the party needed a complete review of its current situation, including a shadow cabinet reshuffle.
