This is Mr Wyllie’s first appointment to an Australian-listed company, although he has been involved with several companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, including various Wyllie Group companies.
GoConnect director Peter Simon said he and his fellow directors welcomed Mr Wyllie’s appointment.
He said Mr Wyllie would bring with him many years’ experience gained through working closely with his father in areas such as venture capital, property and funds management.
“Mr Wyllie has also held a number of directorships in fund management and property investment companies, including Asia Securities Limited, Asia Securities Venture Capital and various private companies associated with the Wyllie family,” he said.
“He also has experience in the property field through his own investments in Hong Kong, as well as the Northbank development in WA.”
Established in August 1999, GoConnect is a media communications company, based in Melbourne, with a core business in the online delivery of interactive audio/video content through its technologies, GoTrek and m-Vision.
These two media platforms have enabled media content providers to deliver broadcast quality, interactive audio/video content to fixed line and Microsoft Windows mobile powered smartphones and pocket PCs, with users in more than 180 countries.
Microsoft aims to have 100 million smartphone users by 2007, creating a substantial audience for GoConnect’s technology.
Its parent company is Sino Securities International Ltd, a listed specialist investment services company.
GoConnects managing director Richard Li was taken ill in early July, but a company spokesman said Wyllie’s appointment was not related to Mr Li’s illness.
“Richard and Craig were speaking about this a year ago, and the motions were being put in to place two to three months ago,” the spokesman said.
“Mr Li is currently recovering and will be returning in three to four weeks in his role as managing director.”
