A team of Curtin University of Technology students has been named world champions at the 2004 Students in Free Enterprise World Cup at the weekend.
The win places Curtin students as leaders in a comprehensive series of projects aimed at teaching entrepreneurship, economics, business ethics and financial and social responsibility to the community.
Teams from 37 countries took part in the competition, with the win representing the first victory for a team from outside North America in 29 years.
The Curtin team, which included students from across the university, was led by Tracey Hodgkins.
It operated mainly in a business consulting role, helping to create more than 170 jobs and $8.5 million in revenue.
Projects included working with women on community service orders to teach them business skills, reinventing the Boddington Old School for the local community, providing sponsorship for Enterprising WA and establishing an online catalogue to sell creative products made by Curtin students.
