WorkSafe has started an investigation into the death of a worker on an offramp of the Mitchell Freeway this afternoon.
In a statement released today, WorkSafe said the work-related death occurred at the road reserve on the Warwick Road offramp of the freeway.
The man was reportedly struck by a fallen piece of equipment.
"WorkSafe investigators are currently examining the circumstances of the incident with a view to ensuring compliance and preventing future incidents of a similar nature," the announcement reads.
WorkSafe commissioner Sally North said any work-related death was a tragedy.
Ms North has relayed her sincere condolences to the man’s family, friends and fellow workers.
Belmont-based NRW Holdings announced on the market that the man who died was a subcontractor on its HWA Freeway project.
NRW said circumstances of the incident were being investigated by WA Police and WorkSafe.
"NRW’s condolences go out to the family of the deceased, his friends and work colleagues. NRW is providing appropriate support to all those affected by this tragic event where possible," the company said.
