Waroona-based Efofex Software is experiencing international success with its specialised software for science and mathematics teachers.
The company is a husband-and-wife team with a home-based ‘virtual office’.
Managing director Paul Hooper said the great thing about electronic commerce was you could pretend.
“Customers can send emails to your office or visit your web page using a number of different addresses that all go to the same person,” Mr Hooper said.
Using generic addresses such as sales@efofex.com, he replies using his personal address, giving the impression that Efofex is a large corporation with a managing director who deals with clients one-to-one.
Mr Hooper said another beauty of e-commerce was the ability to play an active role in the market without needing to be in the city.
“Efofex started in Perth ten years ago and when we decided we’d like to move to the country, we didn’t lose a beat,” he said.
Mr Hooper’s previous job as a mathematics teacher inspired the creation of the software, which started as an after-work hobby.
He said 94 per cent of secondary schools in WA were using the software.
“We have a UK distributor and have dabbled in the US but we’re now in the process of establishing a more detailed distribution network in those markets,” Mr Hooper said.
