LONDON-LISTED consultancy WSP Group Plc has taken a 50 per cent interest in Perth-based engineering firm TWP Australia, which will be renamed TWSP.
TWP Australia was established in 2006 by South African parent TWP and won some significant contracts, including BHP Nickel West’s Perseverance Deeps project, before the GFC hit that project, forcing the consultancy to shed staff and reconsider its office accommodation plans.
TWP said it refocused on junior and mid-tier miners, and increased its profile and project pipeline to include work in South-East Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Subsequently it decided to diversify its service offering and strengthen its tier ranking in the Australian market, a move that has resulted in the partnership with WSP, which already had a presence in WA in environmental consulting.
TWSP has opened headquarters, which will accommodate 90 staff at 503 Murray Street, and plans to open offices in South Australia and Queensland.
