WA's Merchandise Trade
Western Australia's exports have picked up a little in recent months, after trending downwards at the turn of the year. The value of merchandise exports in the 12 months ending May 2004 was $32,080 million, up 0.4 per cent on its level in the 12 months ending in April. Exports were $164 million (0.5 per cent) lower than in the 12 months ending in May 2003.
WA's imports in the 12 months ending May 2004 were valued at $20,550 million, up 1.1 per cent on the 12 months ending in April, but $13 million lower than in the 12 months ending in May 2003.
The State's surplus on merchandise trade was $11,530 million in the 12 months ending in May 2004, down $95 million (0.8 per cent) on the 12 months ending in April, and $151 million (1.3 per cent) lower than in the 12 months to May 2003.
