Vehicle sales in Western Australia slumped 17 per cent in August compared to the same month last year, new figures show.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics said today that during last month, a total of 7,995, vehicles were sold, seasonally adjusted, a sharp fall from August last year when 9,681 units were retailed.
However vehicle sales were flat when compared to July 2009 when 7,949 units were sold.
Sales of passenger vehicles in WA increased by 3.2 per cent compared to July, with 4,431 units sold while sports utility vehicles were up marginally by 0.4 per cent to 1,837 units.
Nationally, new motor vehicle sales rose by 0.3 per cent, seasonally adjusted, to 75,388 units in August, from 75,133 units in July.
