The growth rate of Western Australian motor vehicle sales slowed in May to 7.4 per cent, but still remains the strongest of the states this calendar year.
Despite the fall, from the 15.9 per cent recorded in April, WA remains among the strongest in vehicle sales for the month, behind the Australian Captial Territory on 14.3 per cent, the Northern Territory on 12.7 per cent and Queensland at 8.8 per cent.
WA remains in second place on year-to-date growth for 2007, with its 12.8 per cent growth rate dwarfed by the ACT's 15.4 per cent.
Toyota remained the vehicles of choice for Western Australians, with year-to-date sales hitting 11,017, an 18.5 per cent increase on the 2006 year to date findings. This came despite a 1.9 per cent fall in the vehicles sold since April.
Kia sales were down 45.7 per cent for the month, and 18 per cent for the year to date, and Hyundai wasn't doing much better, down 19.6 per cent for the month and 20 per cent for the year.
Sales of Holdens were up 10 per cent for the month, while Ford sales fell 10.8 per cent for May, with year to date sales up 4.1 and 2 per cent respectively.
Mazda sales were up 18 per cent for the month, and 18.6 per cent for the year to date, while Nissan sales were up 13.7 per cent for May and 45.1 per cent for the year.
Sales of Hino trucks were up 66.7 per cent for the month and 12.6 for the year to date, while Isuzu's 46.8 per cent rise for the month helped bring year to date sales to 21.2 per cent.
