Vehicle sales in Western Australia fell slightly in the month of August, but the outlook remains positive, with an 11.4 per cent increase in sales when compared to last year.
The data, released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries' VFACTS bulletin, showed a national total of 88,206 new vehicles were sold in the month, an 8 per cent rise on the 81,661 sold in August last year.
Over 80,000 of those new vehicles were sold in WA, with 10,730 changing hands in August, an increase of 10.2 per cent on the previous month.
Despite the drop from the 10.6 per cent increase experienced in July, the State has reclaimed its second place in the monthly sales statistics, with New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland all recording monthly increases of below 10 per cent.
On a year-to-date basis, WA remains in second place nationally, behind the ACT's 16 per cent increase in vehicle sales.
Toyota is still number one in WA car sales with 18,621 sold in the year-to-date, followed by Holden at 11,424 sales, and then Ford at 7,279, down 348 on the previous year.
Hyundai sold 5,971 vehicles in the year to date, 579 on the previous year despite the sale of 878 vehicles for the month.
Closing in on Hyundai are Nissan (5,551) and Mitsubishi (5,463) which have both improved their positions from last year while Mazda (5,247) and Honda (4,371) have also made significant gains.
Meanwhile, Isuzu trucks continued to pull ahead, selling 821 in the year to date, and up 178 on the previous year, while Hino came in second place, with 597 sales in the year to date.
