Western Australia will once again host the international adventure-sports competition, X-Adventure (pronounced cross adventure) RAID World Cup on March 18 and 19.
Tourism minister Sheila McHale said "The Cross Adventure event is based around Margaret River and is expected to generate significant local, national and international media exposure.
"The RAID World Cup course is a gruelling 250km, incorporating disciplines such as mountain-biking, cross orienteering, canoeing, abseiling and climbing.
"WA is the perfect environment to hold a cross adventure tournament because of its rugged and diverse natural landscape."
Ms McHale said more than 140 competitors were expected from countries including France, America, Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Lithuania, Poland, and Australia.
Competitors will compete in teams of four - three runners and one assistant/substitute and each team must include at least one man and woman.
"The Government through Tourism WA and EventsCorp has invested $100,000 in the 2006 RAID World Cup - part of its $300,000 commitment over three years," Ms McHale said.
"Tourism is a critically important element of our economy, and investing in international events like this helps grow tourism and provide more jobs."
