WESTERN Australia has been largely ignored in the latest round of grants under the federal government’s green building fund.
Out of $18 million allocated to 39 commercial office buildings across Australia, just $423,500 was allocated to Stockland Trust for the upgrade of building management systems at the Durack Centre on Adelaide Terrace.
The Durack Centre retrofitting project involves upgrading air-conditioning, ventilation and lighting systems to optimise energy performance.
This follows from the December round of funding where WA office buildings received nothing of the $11.6 million on offer.
In total, just more than $3.1 million has been allocated to WA projects, out of a pool of $90 million.
The green building fund is designed to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission by helping building owners to retro-fit commercial office buildings.
Nationally, the total expected reduction of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the grants is 158,000 tonnes.
Applications for the final round of green building funds closed on April 27.
