WA leads exports

WA continued to be the greatest contributor, in absolute and relative terms, to Australian exports for the March quarter 1999, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

WA exported more than $4.8 billion worth of goods for the quarter, leading NSW with $4.1 billion.

Total Australian exports were approximately $19.9 billion. However, Australian exports fell almost 14 per cent from the previous quarter. WA faired worst with a decline of almost 25 per cent.

Imports declined almost 10 per cent for Australia and 18 per cent for WA to $2.03 billion.
