Alcoa World Alumina Australia, Argyle Diamond Mines, and Worsley Alumina participated in the 2006 BOC National Safety and Health Innovation Awards, announced in Perth last night.
The awards, now in their eighth year, seek to recognise and promote safety and health innovation in the resources sector, and foster innovative solutions to everyday safety and health issues.
The performance of Western Australian companies in the awards has been commended by the Chief Executive of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy, Tim Shanahan.
"These companies have made a demonstrable commitment to making the workplace safer for their workers," Mr Shanahan said.
"By participating in the National Safety and Health Innovation Awards, they are sharing their experiences and facilitating the spread of great ideas to improve safety and health outcomes for the entire industry," he said.
Alcoa's cutting edge innovation received a highly commended recognition and the VAST project from Argyle Diamonds was acknowledged.
