Car sales in Western Australia are back on the up, with the industry recovering from two months of single digit growth, recording an 11.6 per cent increase for the year to date.
The data, released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries' VFACTS bulletin, showed 86,291 new vehicles were retailed last month, an 11.3 per cent rise on the 77,562 sold in July last year.
Almost 70,000 of those new vehicles were sold in WA, with 9,645 changing hands in July, an increase of 10.6 per cent on the previous month.
WA's monthly growth in July was still below that recorded in most other states and territories, notably the major markets of NSW and Victoria, putting WA in front of South Australia and the Northern Territory.
On a year-to-date basis, WA remains in second place nationally, behind the ACT's 15.9 per cent increase in vehicle sales.
Toyota remains the dominant force in WA car sales with 15,817 new vehicle sales for the year-to-date, followed by Holden (10,053) and then Ford (6,330).
Hyundai has slumped to 5,093 new vehicle sales, down 740 from the same time last year.
Closing in on Hyundai are Nissan (4,931) and Mitsubishi (4,837) which have both improved their positions from last year while Mazda (4,609) and Honda (3,853) have also made significant gains.
Meanwhile, Isuzu trucks continued to pull ahead, selling 700 in the year to date, and up 155 on the previous year, while Hino came in second place, with 531 sales in the year to date.
