Western Australia has recorded a drop of 3.6 per cent in new vehicle sales for the month of June, while sales across the country continue to run at record levels.
The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) reported that 431 less cars and trucks were sold in the state with 11,564 vehicles purchased, down from 11,995 that were sold in June last year. The drop follows a 1 per cent fall in sales recorded over the May month.
However over the year to date, WA recorded an increase of 2.1 per cent to 61,191 vehicles sold.
Over the month of June, Toyota recorded a 7.3 per cent increase, Ford dipped 5 per cent, Holden dropped 17 per cent, Mitsubishi fell 14 per cent, Nissan lost 24 per cent while Suzuki shed 14.2 per cent. Honda lifted sales by 8.5 per cent.
Aston Martin was the best performer with a 300 per cent increase in sales over the month, while Volvo recorded a 57 per cent gain, BMW climbed 64 per cent, Jaguar grew 46 per cent.
Across Australia, FCAI said 106,541 new cars and trucks were retailed in June, a 1.4 per cent increase on the same month last year.
The result put sales for the first half of 2008 up 3.5 per cent at 542,695 and on track to top one million for the full year.
Toyota was the top selling company last month with 25,624 vehicles, ahead of Holden on 11,968 and Ford on 10,286.
On a year-to-date basis Toyota was also well ahead with sales of 127,440 vehicles, compared to 67,123 for Holden.
