A new survey of 1800 WA small and medium sized businesses has found they continue to support the federal and state Liberal parties.
The respondents were surveyed between July 22 and August 11 for the Sensis Business Index survey.
Report author Christena Singh said support for the Federal Opposition and the Barnett Government remains strong amongst WA business.
"Small business support for the WA Government increased during the quarter, taking it to the second most supported state or territory government, behind only Northern Territory," Ms Singh said.
According to the survey the key reasons for the strong support for the Barnett government was the perception it was generally more supportive of small business.
There was also a perception the state government is more supportive than the Federal Government.
The report also shows business confidence improved strongly during the quarter after slumping last quarter on the back of negative sentiment around the proposed mining tax.
"Business confidence in WA has rebounded this quarter to be above the national average, although it has not made up all the ground it lost in the previous quarter, with the mining tax still factoring as a concern," explained Ms Singh.
Despite the increase in business confidence, WA businesses experienced challenging trading conditions during the quarter, with key profitability and sales indicators strongly negative.
"On a positive note, WA small businesses are expecting considerably stronger conditions for the upcoming quarter," she concluded
