The Office of Energy has recommended a 55 per cent increase in small business electricity prices, even higher than the increase it proposed in a draft report released last year.

Business and private users should not be slugged in this fashion, the increases that are required have come about due to political juggling over 8 years, it is not good enough to blame the previous government and leave it at that, these increases need to be managed over a longer period with small managed increases.

I completely welcome the price rises, and only regret they aren't being introduced sooner, and are A LOT more. The price of power is currently ridiculously low, and people have become use to paying next to nothing for it. I think the Govt should however increase the cost according to usage i.e. those people who want to run three fridges and 4 TVs should be paying at least 5x what they are now. If I had it my way, the increases would start from today, and be an immediate doubling of the price, and then another 400% increase over the next 2 yrs.
