Travellers leaving Perth and heading interstate or overseas will be able to vote at the airport before election day, Saturday October 9.
Voting centres will be set up at the Qantas domestic terminal, while the multi-user and international terminals will be available for travellers to cast their votes.
Australian Electoral Officer for Western Australia, Jennie Gzik, said special voting centres would operate from 7am to 7pm each day this week before the election.
“Electors from any one of the 150 divisions across Australia are able to vote at these airport centres,” Ms Gzik said.
“This is just one of the efforts the AEC is undertaking to ensure that every eligible elector was able to fully participate in the 2004 Federal election.”
Under Australian Electoral Commission rules, a pre-poll vote can be cast if a voter is absent from the State or Territory in which their ballot would be cast.
In the 2001 Federal election, about 2,500 votes were cast by travellers and staff at Perth airport.
