PERTH-based Pivod Technologies has devised a solution to make video conferencing easier utilising the Internet.
The company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with US-based NASDAQ listed Vianet Technologies to provide service-based solutions by way of a joint venture using Vianet’s visual media communications applications.
Under the MOU, Pivod will use Vianet’s low cost Wavelit technology to access the Internet.
Wavelit has been developed using sophisticated image compression technology in use by the US Department of Defence for 18 years.
It has been modified to be available for commercial and domestic use without requiring specialised software.
Business users will be able to use it for multi-media communications including streaming media, video conferencing, video messaging and image delivery.
Pivod managing director Phillip Jenkins said he anticipated there would be 2 million users of the product throughout Australia by 2001.
