THE Note was hit for six when it heard the University of Western Australia this week announced that it will be sponsoring the Retravision Warriors’ pre-season tour to India in an effort to attract Indian students to pursue graduate study at UWA. Riding on the immense popularity of cricket in India (and the high standing of the Australian cricket team), UWA staff, along with players from the Warriors, will visit universities in Mysore and Bangalore – the so-called Silicon Valley of India – to promote UWA as an attractive overseas study option. UWA vice-chancellor Professor Alan Robson says the university will focus on attracting students to study masters degrees by coursework and the higher degree by coursework, with a particular emphasis on the engineering and computer sciences fields. The tour will highlight the university’s high standing in terms of its quality of students, teaching and graduate outcomes. The move comes after our branding survey last week, which prompted UWA to question its placement at equal sixth on our underachieving brands list .
