The WA Department of Industry and Resources has implemented a permanency drive within its business and trade services division.
Starting with senior staff, permanent appointments will be made to about 20 per cent of positions in the division over the next four to five months.
The lack of permanency stems from the merger of the Department of Industry and Technology and the Department of Minerals and Resources in 2003. This meant a number of positions have been filled temporarily.
DOIR’s recently appointed business and trade service deputy director general, Gary Stokes, said some people would be transferred during the process.
So far, Central TAFE international operations director Brian Carew-Hopkins has been appointed as director of export and market development.
He replaces current acting director Simon Johnston.
Federal Department of Education, Science and Training aboriginal education branch manager Kevin Brahim has been appointed the new director of Aboriginal economic development, replacing current acting director Graeme Stephens.
A third appointment, for business development director, is yet to be announced.
Stephen Grocott is the current acting business development director.
