PERTH property developer Match was the only Western Australian business among the winners at the Property Council of Australia's annual awards.
Match won the national heritage and adaptive re-use award for its Home project, a mixed-use redevelopment of one of the city's prominent heritage buildings.
Home, located on the corner of Murray and Milligan streets, was built in 1927 as a factory warehouse for British tobacco company WD & HO Wills.
It has since been used as a storage facility, a nightclub and roller-skating rink.
PCA president Daniel Grollo said the building had been classified as one of the City of Perth's Register of Culturally Significant places.
He added that the creative use of the factory's high ceilings and industrial features, and construction in accordance with the state government's conservation guidelines, had highlighted the building's original character.
The redeveloped building consists of 30 warehouse apartments and 37 terrace apartments and has experienced high occupancy rates.
"It is very rewarding to receive national industry recognition for the delivery of good design and the preservation of historic building, something which the team at Match are so dedicated and committed to," Match managing director Lloyd Clark said.
Architect John Colliere of Colliere Menkins Pickwell Architects (CMP), and interior designer Rodney Thompson of Designlink supported the redevelopment.
The building has retained around 95 per cent of its original heritage fabric.
