WA independent tyre retailer Tom’s Tyres has joined forces with Bob Jane T-Marts.
The alliance is expected to grow substantially on Bob Jane’s current WA turnover of $254 million.
Research shows Bob Jane T-Marts and Tom’s Tyres currently share 17 per cent of the market.
Tom’s Tyres director Kevin Harford said the Tom’s outlets would be rebranded as Bob Jane T-Marts.
Bob Jane T-Marts managing director Bob Jane said Tom’s Tyres director Noel Featherby would be staying on as part of the state management team.
Mr Jane said he started as a spare parts supplier.
“The big players forced me into tyre retail,” he said.
“When we started selling tyres in 1964 we were selling them at less than the wholesale rate. I decided this was no good because competitors were buying tyres from me and selling them on with a mark-up.
“So we started franchising in 1971.”
Bob Jane T-Marts alliance with Tom’s will give it eighteen stores in WA, taking its national tally to 144.
