National logistics giant Toll Group has bought Herdsman-based Courier Australia, taking 100 per cent of the Western Australian company which has been operating for almost 50 years.
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, was settled today, with staff being informed and letters outlining the change distributed cutomers.
Officials from Toll and Courier Australia declined to comment on the deal but staff at the WA business confirmed it had taken place.
It is understood the three owners of the business - chief executive Bruce Morgan, national distribution director Peter Henderson and finance director Gary Pyne - will remain with Courier Australia in an executive capacity.
Staff were told the sale reflected the growing demands from WA customers for national distribution options as well as employees seeking greater career opportunities.
Courier Australia's 600-strong workforce is largely split between its contract driver workforce and its Belmont logistics business which has a big focus on the magazine and fashion industries.
Courier Australia was first established in 1959 and has three key divisions. The Express business operated out of Bentley, the Urgent Courier Division operating out of Bentley and Malaga, and the Belmont logistics operation.
Toll operates in 44 countries, has more than 35,000 staff and a turnover of more $9 billion.
