The number of properties for rent continues to creep up over the past few weeks after remaining fairly stable during mid-August and September.

This time last year, rental listings were sitting at 5,748 which represents a 52 per cent increase from this level.

Looking at the individual sectors, reiwa.com data shows that rental listings have increased significantly from 8,398 recorded four weeks ago to 8,735 this week.

Rental listings for houses sit at 5,200, a marginal increase of 2 per cent over the week and is the highest number of house listings recorded since mid-July 2015.

Rental listings for units remained virtually unchanged at 3,535 this week. In comparison to the three months to September 2015 period, the median rent for the three months to October 2015 recorded a minimal decline to $400 for the overall market and $390 for units while median rent for houses remained stable at $420.
