A joint venture including Leighton subsidiary Thiess has won a $500 million contract to build storage tanks at the Wheatstone liquefied natural gas project in Western Australia.
Thiess and tank design firm EV LNG Australia will build LNG storage and condensate tanks near Onslow, in the state's north.
EV LNG Australia is the Australian subsidiary for France's Entrepose Projects and Vinci Construction Grand Projets.
"The joint venture brings a unique combination of capabilities that will deliver a high quality outcome and bring certainty to these large complex projects," Thiess managing director Bruce Munro said.
"Thiess is excited to be at the forefront of providing critical infrastructure needed for this rapidly growing industry."
The $29 billion Wheatstone LNG project is being operated by US energy giant Chevron.
Thiess said the tank project would created 475 jobs, with 75 per cent of the work to be completed in Australia.
The tank project is Thiess' third contract won to date on the Wheatstone development.
