Theatre tenders called

THE state government has called for tenders for the construction of a 575-seat performing arts venue on the corner of Roe and William streets in Northbridge. Culture and Arts Minister Sheila McHale said the venue, designed by Kerry Hill Architects, was a uniquely exciting project. “This is the first time a state government has constructed a purpose-built state theatre in Perth,” she said. Forward works, including demolition and excavation, were expected to be completed shortly, Ms McHale said. The venue will include a 575-seat main theatre; a flexible 200 seat performance studio; rehearsal spaces; back of house services and public amenities; an outdoor multi-purpose space; and upgrades to the William Street heritage buildings adjacent to the venue.
