SOMETIMES you just want to have a fine dining experience in an upmarket setting in a place renowned for quality service, but really, is a suit and tie necessary?
That’s the premise behind the re-launch of Origins Restaurant by the Sheraton’s new food and beverage manager, Dario Orsini, who believes eating fine food should be enjoyed in relaxed ambience.
Moving from Broome’s Inter-Continental Cable Beach Resort, Mr Orsini took up the position just six weeks ago and, like a bullet train, has set Origins on a fast track course of contemporary style.
Shying away from the traditional five-star dining experience, Mr Orsini says signature fine dining has lost favour during the past three years.
“Gastronomy is moving as fast as music and fashion,” he says.
Mr Orsini has gone back to basics with the menu, opting for a “modern, jazzy, and funky style” for the restaurant.
But that’s not to say Origins won’t retain the class, service, and fine food for which it is renowned. And, although the menu has been simplified, Mr Orsini says this has not detracted from the product.
“We have simply brought it (the menu) more down to earth while still maintaining the attention to detail,” he says.
Cooking up the feasts is executive chef John Manley, while the man at the helm of the kitchen, Origins restaurant manager George D’Annunzio, is providing the finishing touches to the menu, ready for tomorrow evening.
So fast has Mr Orsini got the ball rolling that the company providing the new staff uniforms can’t get them there for tomorrow night’s launch.
“The revamping of Origins has been my first priority,” he says.
The music will reflect the contemporary style of Origins, with Latin jazz predominant.
“The situation in which a person is happiest.”
According to Andreas Supper, a person is happiest when they are in their element.
And that’s what you’re likely to experience when visiting his newly opened restaurant, Elements, on the Esplanade, Perth.
Austrian-born Mr Supper (ex Jessica’s at the Hyatt) has made the restaurant atop the stairs of the BGC Centre not just welcoming but a great place to either unwind after work or entertain clients.
The new fine dining a la carte restaurant has three specific dining areas – sushi bar, dining restaurant, or the outdoor tapas lounge (complete with heating), making Elements a great place for meeting and greeting.
Entertaining clients is simple, whether utilising the privacy provided by the boardroom table in the dining area or sitting at the sushi bar, the cuisine and service that Mr Supper and manager Henriette Schijf provide will add the finishing touches to that business deal.
The “key element” for any restaurant is good food and good service, Mr Supper says.
“If you can provide these two criteria, people will come,” he says.
“If you want to enjoy yourself, get looked after and enjoy quality food, you can do it at Elements.”
And what better place to do that than in the lounge area, with its comfortable seating and the option of nibbling on tapas and drinking some wine, which is what Mr Supper says differentiates Elements from the norm.
“We’re not a pub, we’re not a wine bar but you can enjoy a drink and food in comfort,” he says.
Mr Supper also says food and drinks are an essential ingredient to enjoying life.
“If you’re not interested in them you’re not interested in life.”
Open from 7am Monday to Friday, Elements is located at the BGC Centre, The Esplanade, Perth.
