Too hot to handle?
Premier Colin Barnett and Jeff Kennett may be political brothers, but it was evident at a Tourism Council WA event last week that Mr Barnett has followed the ex-Victorian premier’s lead not just in politics, but also in creating controversy.
While a Note operative was too far away from Mr Barnett to see whether he was chasing his beer with cool mints during lunch, his appreciation for Mr Kennett’s theory on local government amalgamation was evident.
Introducing his guest, Mr Barnett said on hearing the news of the Claremont Municipal Chamber fire that had devastated the heritage-listed building the night before, he was sure Mr Kennett was wishing he had thought of that tactic when slashing Victoria’s third government tier.
While the lunch-goers received the jibe well, The Note wondered whether this was perhaps a little soon for the history buffs and council lovers in the Western Suburbs?
Hidden treasures
You probably won’t find this garage sale listed in the Quokka or the Readers Mart, but the Black Swan Theatre Company is promising there will be ‘hidden treasure’ when it clears the decks ahead of its move to the new State Theatre.
The Note wondered whether we might run into Rio Tinto boss and Black Swan chairman Sam Walsh rummaging through the bric-a-brac on December 4.
It was revealed at a recent WA Business News Success and Leadership event that Mr Walsh is an avid collector of antique milk jugs.
