The late mail on air race
Eventscorp staff must have been choking on their Weet-Bix when they heard the surprise news that Red Bull had plucked the wings from its air race sponsorship, shutting down the global tour that included Perth’s foreshore.
Not only did WA’s events agency lose its number one headline act but the race featured prominently in a glossy updated brochure-cum-calendar that appeared to have just been sent out the night before the bad news arrived.
The Note received one in the mail just after the bad news was announced and it only served to highlight how few big events take place here.
Island life
Dirk Hartog Island: to some it is almost paradise, to others it it’s just too far from anywhere.
If you are in the former camp, and The Note is, then this might be your big opportunity to grab a tiny slice of the island which was recently included in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area.
The Wardle family, descendants of Perth retail superhero Tom the Cheap, have put an 11-hectare block at the southern end of the island up for sale.
The site Sunday Island Bay is part of about 70ha of freehold the Wardles own after negotiating an early end to their pastoral lease over the 60,000ha land mass.
Any new owner would be in good company. A Clough family company has a house on a leasehold just across the pristine waters on the nearby mainland peninsula.
