Watts that?
Hungering for nostalgia as ever, The Note just loved this picture of bygone radio heroes John K Watts and Bazza Martin flanking none other than rock ‘n’ roll heartthrob Neil Diamond. They were better days, weren’t they? Except for the fashion, that is.
Wattsie, who still shares the airwaves once a week with Bazza in Adelaide, has released the photo to help raise awareness for a Variety charity the gig the pair are headlining later this month, marking some 20 years since they finished their on-air careers in Perth.
Wattsie and Bazza’s show, which started in the 1970s, never did make it into The Note’s household where it was exclusively an Eoin Cameron affair on the ABC. Cameron, of course, doesn’t need a reunion; he’s still on the air.
Rotto plot
While wandering aimlessly on Perth’s nearest overseas destination, a Note operative spied an old sign apparently provided by the Rottnest Island Businessmen’s Association.
A cursory attempt by The Note to find any current record of the RIBA’s existence failed. That would not be surprising. Rotto has far fewer businesses than the old days when the island had much more to offer – even real estate development if you go back far enough.
The closet thing The Note could think of these days was the AICDs annual two-day chinwag on the island.
Perhaps such an association is an idea worth reviving. If children can get a Rottnest passport, maybe the adults can sign on as temporary members of RIBA.
Given the number of West Perth dealmakers who holiday on the island, we reckon there’s some merit in adopting this idea. It might even make those vacations tax deductible.
