Success-based The Gate Bar & Bistro has been named the Australian Hotels Association (WA) pub of the year.
The Lion Nathan Gala Ball and the AHA Aon Hotels Awards for Excellence, WA's hospitality and hotels industry night of nights, drew a crowd of more than 1,100 on Monday at the Burswood Entertainment Complex to announce the winners.
Margaret River's Settlers Tavern was named the regional/hotel of the year, while the Sheraton Perth Hotel won the deluxe accommodation award.
The Gate, which won the 2008 AHA De Bortoli/6PR Perth pub of the year gong is renowned for its venue designed around the modern Australian lifestyle with a focus on outdoor entertaining.
The venue offers an extensive selection of wines and beers, a choice of beer gardens, plus some of Aussie favourite dishes prepared by an experienced chef at the Bistro.
AHA(WA) chief executive, Bradley Woods, said this year's winners reflected the high standards of service across the board in Western Australia.
"The hospitality sector is continually upgrading and improving services and standards, which is one of the reasons our industry is among the best in the world," he said.
Finalists and winners were showcased throughout the night across 45 categories, including standards in excellence of service, the responsible service of alcohol, presentation, as well as tourism and accommodation.
Other winners included The Left Bank Café Bar Restaurant (best marketed hotel), Royal Hotel (best pub/hotel accommodation), The George (best hotel/tavern wine list), Steves Fine Wine and Food (best hotel innovation), and Holiday Inn City Centre Perth ( best conference and banquet services provider).
