The stimulas should have stayed at the low income end of the community as the middle income earners are mortgaged to the eye balls and are more inclined to spend the cash handout on bills as opposed to low income earners that you could say would waste it which is what the government wants us to do, just to go out and buy things you usually would not buy.

Sutherland, NSW
That's a huge generalization, how can you say that all middle classed wage earners will spend their money on their mortgages? I certainly won't be, as we cannot afford our own house, so hence no mortgage. I say cheers Mr Rudd and when will we be receiving our payments?

The unemployed miss out again? Is the view because we've been sitting on our fat a** and having a holiday that we don't qualify as a member of the Australian population? And anyway it will be spent on drugs and alcohol....Let them rot?

I'm not a high income earner but miss out yet again. Perhaps I should stop working and have some kids so I can take in some of these gifts instead of paying taxes to cover these government handouts to everyone else

I believe that this is the first time in Australian history that the Government has recognised that it is a "rainy day" and that funds are being used for that day!

An incentive of $950.00 for unemployed to find a job and keep it for 3 months would have been a great stimulus! Job creation programs are urgently required for the newly unemployed before they join the queue of very long term unemployed

Perth
Once again we see our Gov't dishing out cash handouts to the tune of $12b which is only going to be wasted giving the big retailers another Christmas... Why doesn't some of this cash go to worthwhile R&D projects such as the pneumatic engine being developed by Angelo Dipletro. This engine together with the development of a light weight solar powered compressor that could be inbuilt into a vehicle, would see us all driving cars without the need to purchase fuel....In the long run that would put thousands of dollars in the pockets of Australians for onging use rather than a short term spendup. Come on Mr Rudd and Mr Swan, this technology could be sold to the world with factories built in Australia to manufacture it...creating jobs. Just think of Australia's contribution to the green house gas debate if this was to take off.

Good ol Labour governments eh... normally they get 2 terms to stuff the economy before people realize they made a misake letting them run the country..its only taken K RUDD a year to do it. True demand will create a true economy... take your bandaids with you to the next election K RUDD.

Well the unemployed have all ready received a Xmas bonus this year, how much more money can the government give these people, and is it at all helping any of them to get a job?

Sydney
Roger, the unemployed in NSW didn't recieve a christmas bonus, that was pensioners.

perth
Does this $950 payment apply to 457 visa working and tax paying employees too who are not Australian citizens ?

Bundaberg, Qld
Funny I thought it was a global economic downturn. Oh no, that's right, lets blame the Australian Labour government for the whole world economic collapse, just like the last time eh? Let the Libs have the reigns for a few years until they bring the economies of the world to the point of collapse and then have Labour try to put humpty dumpty together again. All while the Liberal supporters are heckling from the sidelines

Perth
I'm no economist but I'm sure looking forward to the money. A bit into my debt, a bit into my leisure.. And with so much money to be spent accross the country, I know I'd be stimulated if I were an economy. =o)

Its about time hard working families who receive nothing from the Government are finally recognised. We have mortgages and bills and children to put through school on tight budgets as well.
