THE Housing Industry of Association WA says it is encouraged by its first weekly survey of major builders in Perth, which showed significant increases in visitor numbers through display centres. According to the survey, traffic through display centres jumped 103 per cent, to 3,960 visitors, between the final trading week of December 2008 and the week ending January 11. During that same period, leads increased 58 per cent from 351 to 553. HIA WA executive director John Dastlik said lower interest rates, the increased first homeowners grant, and competitively prices lots and new homes were having an impact of people’s decisions to re-enter the market. He said the industry could expect improved conditions for the second half of 2009 and into 2010.
