The state environmental regulator has cleared the way for Stike Energy's South Erregulla gas field development after determining not to assess the proposal.
ASX-listed Strike told the market that its South Erregulla phase one 40-terajoules-per-day development received primary environmental approval from the Environmental Protection Authority.
The EPA determined to not assess the development south-east of Dongara, clearing the way for the proposal to be assessed by Environment Minister Reece Whitby.
Strike’s proposal comprises a natural gas processing facility, gas gathering network and pipeline to connect to the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline.
It would be within a development envelope of 283.46 hectares, and no native vegetation would need to be cleared within the already disturbed area.
The proposal would form part of its gas acceleration and development strategy, which aims to provide incremental gas supply into the Western Australian market, according to Stike.
Strike plans to expand the development in phase two to more than 80TJ/day followed by integrating renewable energy, compression and potential carbon sequestration in phase three.
Strike’s shares were trading up 4.6 per cent to 39.7 cents at 1:30PM AWST.
