Strategic Marine has expanded its exposure to the booming north-west, after winning a contract to build a 27-metre work barge for Karratha-based Offshore Plant Hire.
The vessel will be based at the Port of Dampier and chartered to marine operations firm Bhagwan Marine.
It will be used for port upgrades, construction support, mooring maintenance and shallow water dive operations at Dampier, Onslow and Barrow Island.
Strategic Marine chief marketing officer Terry O'Connor said the contract was part of the company's ongoing strategy to increase its focus on supplying the energy and resources sector, primarily in the north west.
""Our ability to supply Australian shipbuilding expertise out of South East Asia supported by our local organisation in West Australia are critical factors in our success and continued momentum in the Australian energy and resources sector.
"This momentum will see us providing shipbuilding, ship repair, towage and heavy fabrication services to a number of key players throughout the region," he said.
Strategic's north-west projects include construction of work barges for Leighton Contractors, tug pens for Woodside Petroleum and a range of ship repairs for international ship operators at Woodside's Gorgon project.
Early last month Strategic announced it would build four workboats for the consortium developing the gas jetty and other marine structures at Gorgon.
