Henderson-based shipbuilder Strategic Marine has added to its burgeoning order book by securing contracts US$14.37 million ($16.15 million) for a further three aluminum hulled boats from an Indonesian company.
Strategic Marine chairman Mark Newbold said the latest signings will see the company build three additional 31m offshore utility boats for PT Baruna Raya Logistics.
"Baruna Raya is an established customer with three 31 metre offshore service vessels already on our order books," he said.
Mr Newbold said that Baruna Raya's craft would be built at the company's yard at Tuas in Singapore, with hull deliveries scheduled for October and December 2008 and February 2009.
Baruna Raya's craft will accommodate up to 60 passengers and a crew of eight and feature 67 square metre of deck space. The two boats will be powered by three Cummins KTA38 engines generating a combined 3600bhp and capable of reaching a maximum speed of 24kts.
The latest signings follow the company's recent US$13.34 million ($14.2 million) joint-venture contract for the construction of two 52m crew boats for Mexican-based Bluewater Marine, along with an order for a 143m steel hulled dive support vessel for Singapore company, Marfield Ltd Inc.
"All of these contracts are significant in their own right, indicating we are now well established on the world stage," Mr Newbold said.
Strategic Marine's order book now stands at more than 125 ships worth more than US$210 million ($224.8 million).
Since it was established in 1984, the company has built more than 320 vessels for domestic and export markets.
The company's boats have been purchased by private companies and governments in South East Asia, North America, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
Strategic Marine employs more than 1,000 staff and operates shipyards at its Henderson headquarters in Western Australia, Tuas in Singapore and Dong Xuyen Industrial Zone, Ba-Ria Vung Tao in southern Vietnam.
The company will open its Mazatlan Mexico yard in 2008 in partnership with SENI.
