EDITH Cowan University has awarded Fiona Stanley the degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa. The honorary doctorate was awarded in recognition of Professor Stanley’s eminence in the fields of epidemiology and child health, and outstanding contribution to the improvement of maternal and child health in Aboriginal populations.
Professor Stanley was instrumental in the establishment of Perth’s Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, a multidisciplinary institute that brings together clinical, laboratory and population health scientists to tackle major issues in child health. She was also a key driver of a collaborative partnership between like-minded researchers and policy makers that led to the establishment of the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth, of which she is the chair.
