Between May and November, the construction and manufacturing sectors enjoyed a surge in activity.
The retail sector appears to be cautiously optimistic with strong expectations for cashflow, turnover and business activity in the next six months.
The survey also found small business confidence was holding up well as the sector prepared for the major taxation changes coming.
It appears the GST is still a major concern for small businesses with half of small business operators rating its implementation as the main challenge in the year ahead.
Although 43 per cent of small
business operators surveyed said they had a reasonable understanding of the GST, only 4 per cent believed they had a thorough understanding.
The latest Yellow Pages Small Business Index also reports upbeat responses from WA small businesses.
The survey, covering 1,200 small businesses across Australia, recorded strong recovery for sales, employment and profit growth in WA.
In the three months to the end of October, a net 10 per cent of WA’s small business proprietors enjoyed increased sales revenue – up from a net 3 per cent of the previous quarter.
Prices growth accelerated, with 19 per cent of proprietors reporting prices had risen.
In the current quarter, sales, profits and prices are all expected to rise and employment is expected to remain unchanged but strong.
