Sol Health’s plan to build an $18 million aquatic, health and lifestyle centre in Butler received a funding boost this month following the state government’s decision to award $2.4 million towards the cost of a swimming pool.
Pending City of Wanneroo planning approval in August, Perkins Builders will build the facility on the corner of Connolly and Lukin drives, which will feature an eight lane, 50-metre indoor swimming pool, two 25-metre pools, gym, medical centre, and other commercial/retail tenancies.
The integrated centre is fully leased by major tenants including medical services provider Symbion Health Ltd, Lifecare Physiotherapy, Daycare Australia and Kidtastic Activity and Leisure Centres.
Sol Health managing director Dean Solly said it had taken 18 months to reach the development application stage, as the size of the plan had grown considerably in that time.
“We’re onto our fourth parcel of land but we’ve struck a good balance now with the size of the facility and car parking. This will be the first time in Australia such a community facility will be built and run by the private sector,” he said.
Sol Health’s is also keen to progress its second health and lifestyle centre in Mandurah, where it has secured a 1.3-hectare parcel on the corner of Wattleglen Road and Old Coast Road at Erskine.
The company is still in discussions with the city, which is considering replacing its 24-year-old aquatic centre.
Mr Solly said Sol Health planned to secure a further eight sites in Western Australia within the next five years to establish more integrated health and lifestyle centres.
