SKINCARE product manufacturer Sodashi has appointed a European distributor for its range of spa products as the company prepares to target markets in Europe.
Sodashi has also signed a deal to supply a signature range of spa products to all P&O Australian Resorts properties across Australia.
Founded by director Megan Larsen in 1999, Sodashi’s first international sale was to the Grand Spa Sheraton in Bangkok in 2001.
It now supplies 18 international spas in six countries, including the Maldives, Thailand, Vietnam, the US, Italy and Australia.
Sodashi products are already used in the Marriott and Sheraton hotels in South-East Asia, and in about 70 Australian-based salons and spas.
Sodashi manufactures more than 45 products for women and men including balms, moisturisers, cleansers and facial concentrates.
The boutique range of Sodashi products is positioned at the prestige end of the market and Ms Larsen said the company had found a niche by creating signature ranges for spas, which “created a bit of mystique” about the products.
“We are now in 17 or 18 spas internationally,” she told WA Business News.
Ms Larsen said the customer response to the products was very positive and that many continued to buy the products through the Sodashi web site after returning from a spa.
“With Sodashi it is never a hard sell. A new product is released and the customer is anxious to buy it,” she said.
Ms Larsen said her 20 years’ experience in the beauty therapy industry has allowed her to develop products she believes are 100 per cent natural.
She said there had been increased demand in recent years for natural skin care products.
“We see what are the trends in industry, what we believe will make the product successful and also where we can be trend setters,” Ms Larsen said, describing the company’s growth as “very controlled”, but “explosive”.
“Growth needs to be controlled because of the cash flow demands it places on the company,” Ms Larsen said.
“Our first-year revenue was $90,000 and we’ve just posted a revenue of $700,000.
“We actually doubled on the previous year and we should be on track to do that this year, knowing what is happening in the next three months.
“I predict our Europe distribution in two years will increase revenue to the company by about $500,000.
“P&O is tricky one. However, I think P&O would certainly help double revenue.
Ms Larsen said she had founded the company with a vision to create products that were 100 per cent natural.
“People are becoming savvier about what goes on their skin because they understand that these products essentially act as food for the skin, and affect your inner and outer well being,” she said
Ms Larsen said sodashi was a Sanskrit word meaning “wholeness, purity and radiance”, and the company had maintained an ethical approach to its business practices and the creation of its products.
