Small firm protection upped

A PROPOSED amendment to the Fair Trading Act is expected to increase small business protection against unfair practices.

The amendment is one recommendation of the Small Business Safeguards Reference Group that reports to Fair Trading Minister Doug Shave.

The unconscionable conduct amendment to WA’s Act will be similar to existing protection under the Federal Government’s Trade Practices Act.

Mr Shave said the WA Act would overcome the limitations on the type of small business covered by the Federal legislation.
