WESTERN Australian airline Skywest has put on two extra flights per week from Perth to Broome to accommodate passengers who have been affected by the cancellation of Virgin Blue flights to the town. Skywest is scheduled to ferry 200 Virgin Blue passengers each week throughout May on the airline’s request as it reportedly removes pilots from some of its scheduled flights for training on the new Embraer jets, due for deployment later this year. A Skywest spokesperson said there were currently no plans in place to extend the relief flights beyond the end of this month. Broome International Airport services about 300,000 passengers each year and serves as a regional hub for business and leisure travellers to the north-west and Kimberley. Skywest currently flies the Perth-to-Broome route nine times every week.
